What’s it actually like?
Immersive Gamebox at Lakeside is one of those screen-based family activities that actually sounds better than it looks on paper. You’re in a game box playing themed, motion-led challenges — Batman, Angry Birds, Floor Is Lava and box party games all get a mention in the reviews. The big win here is that children seem properly engaged, and there’s enough variety within a session to stop it feeling repetitive. Staff get a lot of praise too: helpful, cheerful and good at explaining the games, with one reviewer saying they even adjusted the time when they arrived late. It also seems to work well for mixed groups of kids and adults, and for birthday treats or a slightly different date night. The downside is mostly the obvious one: it’s expensive for what is essentially an hour or so of entertainment. There’s no mention of much in the way of parental comfort, seating or refreshments, so don’t expect a leisurely coffee-and-chat sort of visit. Best for older children who can get stuck in quickly and won’t need much hand-holding.
