Pretty, peaceful and easy-going — lovely for a stroll, less thrilling if your kids need constant entertainment.

What’s it actually like?
Claremont Landscape Garden is a classic National Trust outing: formal historic gardens, a lake, gentle hills and plenty of room for an unhurried wander. Reviews describe it as beautiful, peaceful and easy to walk, with the sort of scenery that makes you feel mildly virtuous for getting everyone outside. For families, the draw is the low-stress mix of open space, paths around the lake, a kids’ play area and the occasional old-fashioned game of skittles. Dogs and children are both mentioned as being welcome, and there’s disabled access around the lake, plus car parking and EV charging. The setting sounds especially good in spring, summer and autumn when the planting and colours are at their best. The downsides are fairly typical NT ones: the café can have long queues and prices are a bit punchy unless you’re a member. Winter also sounds quieter, with less to hold a child’s attention. In short, this is more of a lovely family stroll than a full-day adrenaline event — which, for many parents, is exactly the point.
Two-minute orientation
Quick read
A handsome National Trust landscape garden with lake views, winding paths and big seasonal colour. Good for a relaxed family walk, a play area, skittles and an easy café stop. Best on a fine day; winter visits sound quieter and rather thin on excitement.
