Good honest local park, but parents will be standing about unless they bring a chair.

The long read worth saving for nap time

What’s it actually like?

Playing Field is a straightforward outdoor playground in Sussex: a local park with a play area and a large open field beside it. Reviews describe it as small, but with enough going on to keep children occupied, especially those who like running, climbing and general energetic chaos. The best bit is the variety for younger and early primary children: normal swings, a roundabout, a round swing, a big slide, a climbing frame, a smaller children’s swing and slide, plus a small trampoline. The field itself is a real bonus, because there’s plenty of room to kick a ball about even when football is already happening. Parents also mentioned benches across the wider playing fields, which helps if you’re not actually in the play area. The downside is pretty clear: there’s no proper sitting area in the play space, shade is limited, and some equipment feels awkwardly split between very young and more confident children. One review also noted the trampoline was broken and covered over. So: useful, free and nicely local, but not exactly a place to settle in for the afternoon with a latte and a smug smile.

Two-minute orientation

Quick read

A small but decent outdoor play park with a proper mix of swings, slides, a climbing frame and a trampoline. The big grass field gives children room to run, and there’s space for dogs too. It’s let down by poor seating, patchy age-fit and at least one broken bit of kit.
